Executive Functioning Skills for College Students
Executive Functioning Skills for College Students is a structured, class-like experience designed to help you build the essential skills needed to manage academic, personal, and social responsibilities more effectively. Executive functioning skills are cognitive processes that enable individuals to plan, organize, manage time, focus attention, regulate emotions, and adapt to changing situations to achieve goals. These are skills that many college students struggle with, particularly those with ADHD or neurodivergence. This group focuses on strengthening core executive functioning abilities that can reduce stress, increase productivity, and boost your confidence as you navigate the competing demands of being a student.
Who is this for? This group is ideal for college students who struggle with staying organized, managing their time, or balancing multiple responsibilities. It is especially helpful for students experiencing procrastination and task paralysis, difficulty prioritizing, or feeling overwhelmed by the competing demands of college life. This group will also support students looking to improve their self-esteem by gaining better control over their academic and personal lives.
Group members will leave with practical strategies to improve their daily functioning and a tool-kit full of resources to work smarter, not harder.
The group will focus on four domains:
Time Management: Strategies to help you prioritize assignments, manage deadlines, and break down large projects into manageable tasks, reducing overwhelm and building confidence in your ability to stay on track academically.
Organization and Calendar Management: Techniques for optimizing your use of calendars, planners, and scheduling tools to keep track of classes, exams, deadlines, social commitments, and personal tasks, helping you stay organized and manage your time effectively.
Task Initiation and Completion: Skills to overcome procrastination, tackle task paralysis, and ensure that tasks—whether studying, assignments, or personal obligations—are started and completed efficiently.
Cognitive Flexibility: Tools to adapt to changes in your schedule or workload, problem-solve effectively when things don’t go as planned, and shift your thinking to stay productive even when faced with unexpected challenges.
The group will be led by Dr. Emily Kaplan, who has extensive experience in executive functioning skills training. A brief screening will be conducted to ensure the group is a good fit for your specific needs and goals.
